Recipe: Chef Carla's Black Sesame Matcha Smoothie

I am in love with the flavor of black sesame seeds. I put them on top of my snacks, like sliced apples and bananas with almond butter, because they give this smoothie a rich tahini flavor.

Matcha is a finely ground green tea powder. In Japan, it is traditionally made with water heated to 175°F in a tea bowl and whisked with a bamboo whisk. It gives this smoothie a caffeine boost.

I like to sip this smoothie after my morning workout. It feels super rich and is loaded with healthy fats from the chia and sesame seeds that keep me full until lunch. Plus, it's got a healthy boost of collagen from EVOLUTION_18 Beauty Collagen.



  • 1 1/2 cups almond milk or preferred plant-based milk

  • 1 tbsp. chia seeds

  • 1 tbsp. black sesame seeds

  • 1 scoop EVOLUTION_18 Beauty Collagen or Relaxing Vanilla

  • 1–2 tsp. matcha powder

  • 1 banana or 1/4 avocado, optional

  • 1 cup packed greens, like spinach, Swiss chard, or kale

  • 3–5 ice cubes (optional)


  1. Add the almond milk, black sesame seeds, EVOLUTION_18 Beauty Collagen, and matcha to your blender. Blend on high until smooth (about 30–60 seconds).

  2. Add in the banana or avocado and greens and blend on high until smooth (about 30–60 seconds).

  3. Pour over ice cubes, if you want it extra cold.

Chef Carla’s Note: EVOLUTION_18 Relaxing Vanilla is a bit sweet, you may want to try without the banana or add 1/4 of an avocado to make it extra creamy.
