The Secret to Natural-Looking Skin

As a makeup artist, I have never been a fan of creating a mask to hide your skin or of applying anything unnatural looking. I prefer skin that is even, healthy and a bit dewey. For me, the right moisturizer gives skin a lift and the right foundation (like Jones Road WTF) evens skin out. Here is what you need to do to get a natural finish and look your best:
Create a Skin Care Routine
Start by assessing your skin type. Is it dry? Dehydrated? Oily? Are there brown spots, rosacea, blemishes? Start by choosing a moisturizer that keeps your skin hydrated and a skin care routine that works with your skin type and needs. (Make sure you are also hydrated from the inside and drink some water!)
Find Your Shade
Does your foundation disappear when applied to the side of your face? If you want it to look natural, it has to. If you’re shopping for foundation in person (like at our Jones Road Flagship in Montclair), always swatch colors where you’ll be applying them — you won’t know if the shade is right if you’re only looking at it on the back of your hand. If you’re shopping online, we created a super simple quiz to help guide you towards your perfect WTF shade. If you still have questions, you can reach out to one of our experts at email@example.com.
Texture is Key
I don’t love a flat, flawless face. The looks you often see on social media are so focused on covering the beauty of the skin, whereas I love when freckles show through. That’s one thing I really love about WTF—it provides buildable, natural, light-medium coverage that leaves skin fresh, healthy, and radiant. It makes you look like you, but better.
When it comes to foundation, I like to spot apply and only use it on the areas I really need it. I love using my hands to apply, but you can also use The Skin Brush or The Everything Brush. If you’re looking to cover undereye darkness or blemishes, use a Face Pencil for additional coverage after you apply WTF.
