Bobbi’s 6 Tips for Drinking More Water
- Written By:Bobbi Brown
I often get asked for my number one wellness tip and people are always so surprised with my answer: drink more water. It’s simple, but it’s one of the best things you can do for your body, mind, skin, hair, mood — the list goes on. When I first made the connection between what I was putting in my body and how I was feeling, water was one of the first things I turned to. When I was drinking a ton of water, I felt great. And when I wasn’t, it was obvious.
Water helps keep joints lubricated, protects organs, regulates temperature, stabilizes your heartbeat, aids in digestion, and flushes bacteria from your system. (Try my EVOLUTION_18 Beauty Debloat Tea if you need a boost when it comes to flushing out your system.) And then there are the beauty benefits: your skin will look more plump, fresh, and bright when you’re well hydrated. Everyone’s water needs a different, and your doctor can advise you on how much you should be having each day, but the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine recommend 3.7 liters a day for men and 2.7 liters for women.
I know it can be hard it is to make those eight glasses a day happen, so I’ve come up with a few tricks that help me stay on track with my daily water intake. Here they are:
Start When You Wake Up
Making drinking a glass of water the first thing you do in the morning. That means before you check your email and start scrolling Instagram. Keep a carafe and a glass next to your bed so it’s the first thing you see when you open your eyes.
Just Add Lemon
If your excuse for not drinking enough water is that “water is boring,” this tip is for you. Add some fresh squeezed lemon juice, or any other citrus fruit juice to your glass to give it a flavor kick.
There's an App for That
When I decided to make this a habit, I turned to my phone, because why wouldn’t there be an app to help you drink more water? Turns out, there are plenty. Whether you need a reminder to go refill or want to make a game of it, there’s one out there for you. With Waterlogged, you can track exactly how much you’re drinking (down to the glass size) and set up personalized reminders.
Eat Hydrating Foods
Another way to hydrate is to eat foods with high water content. Cucumber is 96 percent water (the highest water content of any solid food). Other foods that are more than 90 percent water? Tomatoes, watermelon, and radishes. Add these to your plate for an extra boost of H2O.
Use a Water Bottle
Keep a refillable bottle at your side throughout the day and you’ll have a constant reminder to fill up and drink. I like Corkcicle, Dopper, BKR, and S’Well.
Try Beauty Bubbles
I created EVOLUTION_18 Beauty Bubbles: Hydration to make that glass of water work harder for you. These effervescent tablets are made with a blend of powerful antioxidants to protect cells plus hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture. Drop one it, let it fizz, and enjoy!
